Green Building in South Jakarta: Why Sustainable Buildings Are Becoming the New Standard

April 07, 2026

As environmental challenges become more visible today, the concept of green buildings is becoming increasingly important in urban development. A green building is not only about saving energy, but also about creating spaces that support environmental sustainability while still offering comfort for the people who use them every day.

In major cities like Jakarta, this approach is becoming more relevant. As business districts and residential areas continue to grow, developers are no longer focusing only on modern design and functionality. There is now a stronger emphasis on how buildings can use resources more responsibly and operate in a more sustainable way.

One example of this approach can be seen at Arumaya Financial Center, which is part of The Arumaya, an integrated development in South Jakarta. Here, sustainability is considered from the early stages of design all the way to how the building operates daily.

Green Building Standards

Sustainable buildings are usually designed based on international certification standards that evaluate several aspects, such as energy efficiency, water management, and indoor environmental quality.

At Arumaya Financial Center, located within the integrated The Arumaya development, the building is designed to meet International Sustainability Certification (ISC) standards. The building is awarded as GREENSHIP New Building Design Recognition: Gold Level by the Green Building Council Indonesia (GBCI), which is given to buildings that demonstrate strong environmental performance and responsible resource management.

This recognition shows that sustainability is no longer just an additional feature, but an important part of modern building development.

Energy Efficiency in Green Buildings

Energy efficiency is one of the key elements of a green building. With the right systems and technology, buildings can reduce energy consumption while still maintaining comfort for tenants and visitors.

At this development, 79 kWp solar panels help support the use of renewable energy. The air conditioning system is also designed with high energy performance and exceeds Indonesia’s national standard SNI 03-6390-2011.

In addition, the building uses energy-efficient LED lighting throughout the property and is supported by a smart energy monitoring system that helps optimize electricity usage.

The facilities within The Arumaya development are also designed to support more sustainable mobility. The development provides easy pedestrian access to nearby public transportation, and bicycle parking areas are provided to support cycling as an alternative way to commute.

Sustainable Water Management and Building Design

Water management is another important part of sustainable buildings. One of the solutions implemented in the building is the use of low-flow fixtures, which help reduce water consumption in daily use.

The building also allows alternative water sources to be reused, including condensation water from the cooling system. In the landscape areas, plants are watered using a drip irrigation system that delivers water directly to the roots. This helps reduce unnecessary water waste.

From an architectural perspective, the building facade is also designed to minimize heat entering the building. The use of curtain walls with double low-E glass results in an Overall Thermal Transfer Value (OTTV) of 28.42 W/m², which helps reduce cooling demand and improve overall energy performance.

Green Buildings and a More Sustainable Urban Future

Green buildings are not just about technology or certifications. More importantly, they represent a shift in how modern developments contribute to a more sustainable future for cities.

Through energy-efficient systems, responsible water management, and environmentally conscious design, Arumaya Financial Center, as part of the integrated The Arumaya development, offers a modern workspace that also reflects a commitment to sustainability.
