Jakarta, February 27th 2026 – Marking the beginning of 2026, Mandarin Oriental Jakarta, a prestigious hotel under Astra Property, has earned five sustainability awards from institutions spanning city-level recognition to the global stage. From the ASEAN Tourism Standards Awards to the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) certification, these achievements were secured consecutively over the past five months, reflecting the hotel’s consistent application of sustainability principles across all aspects of its operations and facilities.
“What we do every day, from our kitchens and meeting rooms to our community programs, is connected by the same principle,” said Christian Wildhaber, General Manager of Mandarin Oriental Jakarta. “Protecting the environment and supporting communities are fundamental pillars behind every decision we make and every experience we deliver. This is not just a commitment, but part of how we operate daily. We believe the hospitality industry plays a tangible role in shaping a better future.”
Five Awards in Five Months: Establishing Sustainability as the New Standard in Indonesian Hospitality

The hotel’s commitment to integrating environmental responsibility across all operational lines has resulted in achievements recognized by both guests and respected institutions. The milestone began in November 2025 with certification from the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), the international body establishing global standards for sustainable tourism. Independently verified by Control Union, the certification was awarded based on assessments covering environmental management, social responsibility, cultural preservation, and governance transparency.
The recognition extended to the regional level at the ASEAN Tourism Forum 2026 in Cebu, Philippines, where Mandarin Oriental Jakarta was one of only five Indonesian hotels to receive the ASEAN Green Hotel Standard 2026–2028 award from ASEAN Tourism Standards. The award is based on stringent, independently verified criteria, including energy and water efficiency, waste management, community engagement, and responsible supply chain practices.
The hotel further received three additional recognitions: it was named Gold Winner of Sustainable 5-Star Hotel at the Wonderful Indonesia Awards 2025 by the Ministry of Tourism; awarded Jakarta Leading Sustainable City Hotel at the Jakarta Tourism Awards 2025; and honored as Hospitality Sector Social Winner at the Katadata ESG Award, which recognizes measurable sustainability implementation, transparent reporting, and tangible environmental impact.
Sustainability That Is Not Only Recognized, But Experienced by Guests
Committed to delivering world-class service aligned with sustainability practices, Mandarin Oriental Jakarta integrates global hospitality standards into its daily operations, ensuring that every guest experience carries deeper meaning.
Through its Mindful Meetings program, corporate meeting packages are designed to create a calm, focused, and pressure-free environment through the provision of infused water, health-based menus, mindful break sessions, and integrated wellness elements incorporated into every meeting moment.
This same commitment is reflected in ingredient sourcing. One hundred percent of seafood products are sourced from certified sustainable suppliers in accordance with WWF’s Endangered Seafood Guide and responsibly prepared in the hotel’s kitchens. Agricultural products such as coffee, tea, cocoa, vanilla, and sugar are certified by Rainforest Alliance or Fairtrade, while all paper products used are FSC-certified. These initiatives form part of a comprehensive strategy to ensure that the hotel’s food supply chain and operational practices align with long-term sustainability principles.
Beyond curated guest experiences, sustainability is equally embedded in social responsibility initiatives. Through its CSR program, “Sweetening Lives: A Treat for Goodness,” Mandarin Oriental Jakarta donates a portion of American Chocolate Cake sales to Emmanuel Foundation throughout 2025. Funds collected are allocated to two flagship programs: the Food Rescue Programme (FRP) and the EduNation Outreach Programme (ENOP).
The FRP utilizes donations to support daily food distribution operations, including logistics and vehicle maintenance, successfully distributing over 26,000 kilograms of food to thousands of underprivileged children and families in Jakarta and surrounding areas.
Meanwhile, ENOP directs funding to support scholarship recipients’ educational continuity, covering tuition fees, school supplies, and academic enrichment activities.
In addition to financial contributions, Mandarin Oriental Jakarta actively hosts hospitality workshops for ENOP students, providing hands-on learning experiences within a five-star hotel environment and equipping them with relevant skills for the future. The program has received positive responses from various communities, and the collaboration between Mandarin Oriental Jakarta and Emmanuel Foundation continues to serve as a tangible example of how the hospitality industry can play a meaningful role in empowering communities.
All sustainability performance is monitored through the independent Greenview portal, audited by LRQA, and integrated into senior management KPIs, reinforcing a measurable and accountable approach. As a pioneer of sustainability practices within Indonesia’s hospitality industry, Mandarin Oriental Jakarta remains committed to setting increasingly relevant benchmarks. Through transparency, innovation, and consistent collaboration, the hotel continues to demonstrate that responsible growth and tangible social impact can progress hand in hand to create long-term value for the industry, communities, and the planet.
